We Were Here Games in Order

I am a big fan of adventure and escape the room games – and only recently I started experimenting with co-op adventure games, which are absolutely amazing. And the We Were Here series was among the first to introduce this amazing concept – and execute it well.

Today, I am also here to share all the games in this series in order, so you can play them chronologically. There are just a few titles to mention, but hopefully more will follow. Until then, call a friend and play all the We Were Here games in order with the help of the list below!

We Were Here

Release date: February 3, 2017 (PC) September 16, 2019 (Xbox)

The first game in the series, We Were Here was launched as a free-to-play title and was extremely good (and still is).

In this game, two players play as explorers in Antarctica who are split up in an old castle. The goal is to communicate via walkie-talkies, solve puzzles, and escape the castle while staying alive. It was an instant hit!

The game is still available as a free download via Steam.

We Were Here Too

Nostalgia creeps in seeing this scene…

Release date: February 2, 2018 (PC) and October 2, 2019 (Xbox)

Released one year after the launch of the original game, this was the first commercial game in the series. Similar in concept, but bigger and better, with more puzzles and new mechanics.

The gameplay remains similar to that of the original, having two players communicate with each other via walkie talkies and cooperating to escape.

You can get the game on Steam.

We Were Here Together

We Were Here Together

Release date: October 10, 2019 (PC) and June 5, 2020 (Xbox)

This is my favorite in the series. I had plenty of fun playing it and I will always hold it dear to my heart.

The game follows the same concept overall but with a small unique addition: in certain parts of the game, players spend time in the same area, exploring the same clues.

Additionally, there are new puzzles and locations, including ice caves, and the Antarctic outdoors.

You can get the game from Steam.

We Were Here Forever

We Were Here Forever

Release date: May 10, 2022 (PC) and January 31, 2023 on consoles

After a wait that lasted two years, a new game in the series was finally released. An important addition here is the version for consoles which offered crossplay.

Overall, the concept remains the same, but the graphics are much improved and the quality of the puzzles overall is much better – with some really creepy, yet amazing areas and scenes to discover.

As far as the story goes, you find yourself trapped in the same cold areas as in the previous games. Now, you are trapped in the realm of Castle Rock together with another person. You must work together to escape, as always. Freeing yourselves from your cells and escaping the Keep is only the beginning – but does one truly escape Castle Rock?

Play the game on Steam (or your console of choice).

We Were Here Expeditions: The FriendShip

We Were Here Expeditions

Release date: September 14, 2023 (PC, PlayStation, Xbox)

We Were Here Expeditions: The FriendShip is the latest game in the series, launched on both PC and consoles at the same time. Similar to We Were Here Forever, this game includes crossplay between all platforms.

While the gameplay concept remains mostly the same, it comes with an unique addition to the series. Now, players can replay completed puzzles to earn different medals (bronze, silver, gold).

It also came with a less narrative approach, which I can’t say I am a huge fan of, but overall the game remains good and the amusement-park setting works well and comes as a welcome change to the creepier settings in the past games.

But, if I am to be 100% honest with you, I enjoyed the previous ones better. Let’s see what the future holds and what path new titles in the series will follow.

You can get the game from Steam.

This concludes all the We Were Here games in order of release date. While they aren’t focused on the story and you can play them in any order you like, I highly recommend starting from the first one to get more familiar with the game’s core mechanics and see the improvements year over year.

Keep in mind that these are co-op games and you cannot play any We Were Here games solo. Unfortunately, the games also do not support a Split Screen feature for couch co-op.

And if a new game launches before I get the chance to update the list, please post a comment below or send me a message so I can right the wrongs ASAP.
